Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 is a powerful Web server that provides a highly reliable, manageable, and scalable Web application infrastructure for all versions of Windows Server 2008. IIS helps organizations increase Web site and application availability while lowering system administration costs. IIS 7.0 supports the Microsoft Dynamic Systems Initiative (DSI) with automated health monitoring, process isolation, and improved management capabilities.
FastCGI is a protocol for interfacing interactive programs with a web server. FastCGI is a variation on the earlier Common Gateway Interface (CGI); FastCGI's main aim is to reduce the overhead associated with interfacing the web server and CGI programs, allowing a server to handle more web page requests at once.
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is the next version of MSDE and is a free, easy-to-use, lightweight, and embeddable version of SQL Server 2005.
Security
Firewall
Windows firewall is enabled by default on all Windows server images. Firewall exceptions are as follows:
- Remote Desktop
- HTTP
- HTTPS
All other connections are disabled.
Automatic Updates
Automatic Updates are not enabled by default on this Windows server image. Updates are configured to download and install any recommended updates on a daily basis, but this is not enabled at deployment time.
